Please join us for the premiere of our documentary short-subject film, Turning the Tide: Madison and COVID-19, on Friday, November 13, at 7 PM on YouTube followed by live Q & A with the filmmakers on Zoom. The thirty-minute film, a collaboration between the MHS and Ciné Verité, a local film production company, results from hundreds of hours of research, planning, interviewing, and editing.
Turning the Tide reveals our local experience of the novel coronavirus, as it changed “normal life” in the blink of an eye and potentially influenced long-term changes in our social behaviors. The film shows how the pandemic affected essential and non-essential businesses; how school administrators, teachers, and students switched from traditional schooling to distance learning; how parents navigated working from home while helping their children cope with the challenges of online learning; how local leaders sought to provide comfort and assistance to the community; and how the crisis affected frontline workers from medical professionals to grocery store clerks.

The Madison Foundation and CT Humanities provided grant funding for this project. The MHS is grateful for their financial generosity, without which the film could not have been made.
