Contribute to Preserving Madison's History
Since its beginning the Madison Historical Society has relied upon the financial generosity of our supporters. Individuals who are passionate about public history education continue to help our organization by supporting our exhibitions and programs. Individuals who have a special interest in historic preservation ensure the conservation of our collections and the maintenance of our properties. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of donors who contribute to the Madison Historical Society. Thank you.

You may wish to donate a distribution directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA). Americans over age 70½ can distribute up to $100,000 per calendar year from an IRA, tax-free. For those obligated to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), this Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to the MHS or other qualified organization counts toward your RMD but would not be included in your gross income for tax purposes.
Gifts of Appreciated Securities
You may wish to offer the MHS a gift of your appreciated securities. Please contact our office to obtain instructions for completing your transfer.
Bequests
A bequest permits a donor to help shape the future of the Madison Historical Society while retaining complete control over assets during the donor's lifetime. If the MHS is in your estate plans or if you are considering naming the MHS as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, please let us know.
Gifts of Personal Property
Many of the items in our collection have been donated by individuals who want to share something of historical importance. You may own a Madison artifact that will help us preserve the experiences of your ancestors while educating others about a facet of Madison's past. Items that your family no longer wishes to store may be just the missing pieces we have been hoping to find.
Please Note: The MHS can only accept items with a direct relationship to the town of Madison.
Please contact our office to begin a conversation about donating a Madison artifact.
No gifts to the MHS can be accepted without a Temporary Custody Receipt signed by the donor. All donors of material gifts to the MHS must complete and sign a Temporary Custody Receipt. The MHS Collections Committee will then assess each item. If an item is accepted as a gift, the MHS will provide a Statement of Gift to be signed by the donor.
Tax Benefit
Madison Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service. Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent permissible by law. Please contact your tax advisor to understand all circumstances surrounding your potential donation.
